There’s a general misconception that massage needs to be “deep” in order for it to be effective.
Whilst rigorous manipulation of the muscle may bring some immediate relief, it doesn’t really address the root cause of a musculoskeletal issue; hence any residual aches and pains will tend to prevail over time.
Aromatherapy on the other hand, can be likened to a “souped-up” medicinal massage, as it utilises Essential Oils that restore the body on a cellular level. The oils sink into the bloodstream via the pores in the skin, hair follicles and lymph nodes; then once in the system, travel to the relevant areas that are ailing thus initiating a healing process.
This is why Aromatherapy (as a massage treatment), is much lighter in pressure – as the Essential Oils are extremely penetrative and do half the work, therefore deep force isn’t necessary. In fact, if excessive pressure is used, it can cause the Essential Oils to overheat, thus degrading their therapeutic properties.

Signature Treatment
Aromatherapy treatments are incredibly personalized, where a bespoke synergy of oils are tailored in accordance with a client’s presenting symptoms. It’s a medicinal antidote to counteract any deficit that your body is displaying.
Your therapist will create a blend conducive to your DNA.
As humans we’re individual specimens, so why should your “remedy” be the same as anyone else’s?
Sadly, Aromatherapy tends to be relegated within a menagerie of spa and beauty treatments which by all accounts, can only be described as sacrilege! When you receive Aromatherapy within such establishments, chances are, they’re using pre-blended oils with little/or no therapeutic benefit and with no consideration for addressing illness on a clinical level.

Aromatherapy & Men’s Health
Another bizarre misconception, is that Aromatherapy as a treatment is solely for females – which I find puzzling. I guess this misnomer stems from the syllabic “aroma”, as people wrongly assume it’s a perfumery session!
On the contrary, Aromatherapy can be a great alternative to sports massage which guys love to have, as there are a plethora of oils designed to alleviate aching muscles and joints, including some which even boost sporting performance.
The Antidote to Stress (amongst other things)
Ultimately, if you have massage as a means to de-stress, Aromatherapy should be your go to treatment. Many of the Essential Oils are excellent for combating mental health issues as they have an anxiolytic effect and work directly on the brains neurotransmitters and alleviate Stress/Anxiety/Depression/Insomnia.
In addition to addressing generalised aches and pains (Rheumatism/Arthritis/Muscle Fatigue), Aromatherapy can be used to treat all common ailments that you would normally visit your doctor for, in particular issues such as:
- Digestive Disorders
- Respiratory Issues
- Eczema/Psoriasis/Skin Disorders
- Cellulite
- Oedema/Cellulite/Water retention
- Hormonal Imbalances/Menopause/PMT
- Reproductive Issues
- Mental Health
Being a Healer first and foremost, my clients experience an added bonus with my treatments as they receive a multi-layered healing effect, where I have the opportunity to really hone in on any stubborn health concerns whilst I work on the body. Even without the use of rigorous manipulation, clients who are suffering from Arthritis or Rheumatism generally leave the session with much more mobility than when they previously arrived.
In essence, the use of “aromatics” and “herbs”; are the original medicines that our forefathers relied upon and are incredibly powerful at treating the body in a totalitarian nature.
Even if massage isn’t for you, you can always take advantage of Aromatherapy via an apothecary service, where bespoke formulas can be created in the form of creams, oils, inhalers, for your own personal use at home.
